Opening of 53rd SEAMEC

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office in a sabda believed that education is the key for positive and transformative change. Thus, His Royal Highness stressed that all parties are responsible in equipping and empowering future generations with essential knowledge as well as skills to navigate and overcome various challenges including climate change.  His Royal Highness the Crown Prince made the sabda at the opening of the 53rd Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Council (SEAMEC) Conference, at The Empire Brunei, 1st July morning.

 

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr. Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd. Salleh, Minister of Education, and His Excellency Juan Edgardo 'Sonny' Angara, Secretary of Education of the Republic of Philippines and President of the SEAMEO Council.

 

The reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat was read by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar. The Minister of Education in her welcoming speech among other things touched on this year's conference theme.

 

In the sabda, His Royal Highness highlighted that the efforts to equip and empower future generations with knowledge and skills requires comprehensive integration of sustainability principles and practices across all aspects to address the interconnected environmental, social and economic challenges.

 

His Royal Highness in the sabda also underlined that Brunei Darussalam is committed with the Greening Education Plan, which provides a roadmap for integrating sustainability into education.

 

In his remarks, the President of the SEAMEO Council said the 60th anniversary of SEAMEO and the 53rd SEAMEO Council Conference are testaments to SEAMEO's shared commitment to transform education across the region for generations to come.

 

His Royal Highness proceeded to sign the Greening Education Plan Book. His Royal Highness then received in audience the Ministers of the 11 Member Countries and the SEAMEO Secretariat Director.
