Islam encourages the ummah to maintain relations, and being good to neighbours regardless of religion, race or status. People should observe good manners among neighbours by compromising and respecting one another, controlling their pets well, and avoid making loud noises especially at night. This was among the content of the Friday Prayer titled Safeguarding the Rights of Neighbours. The sermon among other things touched on the rights and responsibilities that must be carried out when living with neighbours.

This includes greeting the neighbours and visiting them while they are sick or grieving; forgiving their mistakes and helping them in times of need; not exposing their flaws or spreading slander; causing hurt or trouble to neighbours, whether through words, actions or behaviour; and being kind to neighbours' children.
