25 SUKA members on Working Visit, Present Donation in Miri

The - Tutong District Volunteers (SUKA) held its SUKA Regional Volunteer Programme yesterday that brought around 25 of its members from various backgrounds, to Miri, Sarawak, while stopping over a number of locations along the way for a working visit and presentation of donations.

 

The programme was designed by SUKA to promote a regional working network with other volunteer groups, bodies and associations, as well as to provide meaningful exposure and experiences to members and friends on a regional scale.

 

The volunteer delegates began their journey at the SUKA Office Building in Tutong with a departure ceremony, which was officiated by Haji Adnan bin Haji Adam, the Acting Tutong District Officer and Deputy Chairman of SUKA, as the event's guest of honour.


While congratulating  the members who took part in the noble programme, Haji Adnan during the ceremony also wished them a safe and successful as well as meaningful journey ahead. He urged the members to take the programme seriously to get valuable knowledge and experience.

 

In an interview, Muhammad Amir bin Haji Umarali, SUKA's Head of Secretariat, said that the recently established programme was to promote cooperation between volunteer groups within the region.
The departure ceremonyincluded a prayer, a national flag handing-off ceremony by the guest of honour to the head of delegation, Muhammad Amir.

 

The programme also featured donation rides - stopovers at locations to hand over donations or do any volunteering works as meaningful activities.

 

The first stopover destination was the Curtin University, Miri, to meet Curtin Volunteers to forge bilateral and working relations on the regional arena, especially for volunteering as well as community work and efforts. This meeting also featured a presentation from Curtin Volunteers and exchange of ideas.

 

On the way to the university, there were also other stopovers to give away donations of clothing to the needy. One of them was the Tutong District New Muslim Converts Association (PESATU) in Kampong Lubok Pulau, where the donations was handed over to the Vice President of PESATU and which will be distributed to single mothers and Asnaf groups, comprising of Muslim converts in the area.

 

Kampong Sungai Liang was the second stopover before their journey continued on to Miri, Sarawak. Here, 4A five recipients comprising of a single mv mother, senior citizens and disabled people were given donations of clothing contributed by thoughtful members of society through the SUKA Help and Give Programme.
Also present for the handover at Sungai Liang was Haji Ibrahim bin Datu Maharaja Setia Dian, the Acting Village Head of Kampong Sungai Liang, as well as members of the Mukim Sungai Liang Consultative Council.

 

SUKA was first established in February 2015 and since then has been active in carrying activities such as the SUKA Help and Give Programme, SUKA Mukim to Mukim Volunteer Adventure Programme and now the SUKA Regional Volunteer Programme.

 

SUKA continuously volunteers to coordinate donations of clothing and materials for the less fortunate, and thus welcome the public to contribute towards the cause. Contributions can be handed over to the SUKA Office Building at No 18, Simpang 172, Jalan Sungai Basong in Tutong.
