In conjunction with World Oceans Day, the Fishermen's Day organised by Fisheries Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism was held with the cooperation of Poni Group Sendirian Berhad. Fishermen's Day is an important platform to enhance cooperation between Government Agencies, Non-Governmental Organisations and the fishing community. Themed '' Pemerkasaan Komuniti Nelayan'' or ''Empowering the Fishing Community'' and the goal of ''Strengthening the Development of the Fisheries Sector and Supporting the Well-being of the National Economy'', the event was held at Jerudong Beach, 8th July morning.

 

The event was launched by Awang Haji Mohammad Yusree bin Haji Junaidi, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. The event included exposure to basic skills in making artificial reefs and briefings on safety measures while at sea. Also provided was a Fishermen's Assistance Counter to open up opportunities to obtain financing, develop economic activities and increase competitiveness.
