Muara Port To Be Developed As a Regional Hub

Bandar Seri Begawan

International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) is ready to help and partner with the Brunei Government and its partners in developing the Muara Port as a modern and world-class international port to serve the growing needs of Asia-Pacific economies.

The Muara Port is one of the key areas to be developed by Brunei in its effort to diversify and further strengthen its economy as enshrined in the Sultanate's Vision 2035.

"We can replicate the success we have had and continue to have in operating ports and terminals around the world here in Brunei. We have shown what we can do and how effective we are in partnering with Brunei Government in operating the terminal in the Muara Port. We will continue to provide excellence in future undertakings that will further develop the port," said ICTSI Vice-President for Business Development - Asia, Manuel De Jesus.

De Jesus said that ICTSI, through its Brunei subsidiary New Muara Container Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (NMCTS), offers its global expertise in port management, wide experience in container terminal operations and international financial support to support Brunei's drive to modernise the Muara port.

"We are one with the Brunei government's goal of developing the Muara Port to its full potential - in making it an international hub for global trade. We can help and ready to buckle down to support the Sultanate and its partners in developing the port," De Jesus added.

In his recent state visit to the Sultanate, the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte had signed several agreements to improve trade in Halal products with Brunei.
ICTSI's pledge to help promote Brunei's economic growth is also in line with China's Maritime Silk Road initiative, which fosters intra-regional trade in Southeast Asia, Oceania, and North Africa via the South China Sea, South Pacific Ocean, and Indian Ocean through investments from Beijing.
