PETALING JAYa

Laundry shop owners are ready to get down and dirty by washing the clothes themselves if the lack of water supply cuts into their business.

Ema Saari, who operates a laundry and dry-cleaning outlet in Gombak, said she had stored enough water to keep her shop running for up to two days.

“We’ve been storing water and we can make it last if we use it wisely. There is no problem for us.

“We are ready to clean the clothes manually instead of using washing machines, which require more water,” she said.

Self-service laundromat owner Pang Yeong Ket is determined to stay open by any means although he is worried about the water disruption putting a damper on his business.

“We may have to send our clothes to another laundry if it’s urgent though,” said Pang, whose shop is located in Petaling Jaya.

Besides stowing away water, Pang has started thinking of alternative water supplies.

“I’ll prepare by storing some water, but if there continues to be a water disruption this week, I will transfer water from another place,” he said.

Laundromat owner Melvin Chang is not worried as he has adequate water supply for three days.

“We expect no problem at all,” said Chang, who has a shop in Kelana Jaya.

Cafe worker Faizal Ahmed said his business would have to go on as usual despite the dry taps.

“Even though we’re lacking in water, we will still be serving customers.

“We’ve been storing up water and hopefully, this will be enough,” said Faizal, who works at a shop in Kuala Lumpur.

A worker at an eatery in Petaling Jaya said his shop has enough water to brave the water cuts.

“There’s no problem. We have enough and will stay open,” said the cashier, who wanted to remain anonymous.
