JALAN UTAMA SALAMBIGAR, KG SUNGAI HANCHING

The 12th anniversary of International School Brunei (ISB)'s Borneo Global Issues Conference (BGIC) was held from March 4-7.

The conference's theme this year was 'Universal Primary Education'.

The four Seri Mulia Sarjana Secondary School (SMSS) students who participated were Ankita Kurup (10C), Evina G Yan (10D), Nurhazzierah binti Haji Kassim (10A) and Jaime Paola Guemary (10D).

The final phase of BGIC was held at International Convention Centre (ICC) where students passionately debated on various issues of Human Rights, Socio-Political, and Environmental concerns.

Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman is the Royal Patron who has inagurated the event.

The speakers of the event were Chernor Bah who is a youth representative for the UN from Sierra Leone and Jamira Burley, a human rights activist from the US.

BGIC is not just a regular conference, it is where students from both national and international schools gather together and discuss important issues of the world.

The conference helps students develop a wider perspective of global challenges and enables them to take up issues as delegates through debate and there by following the protocols of Model United Nations.
