GEORGE TOWN

Penang police busted a drug processing lab and seized drugs worth RM1.35mil during a raid at a triple-storey house in Paya Terubong, near here.

State police chief Comm Datuk Wira Chuah Ghee Lye said an unemployed man, in his 50s, was nabbed at about 3.20pm on Monday.

“We recovered two packets of syabu crystals weighing 555gm as well as 47kg of meth oil.

“We also seized chemicals such as Acetone, ethanol, hydrochloric acid, Diethyl ether, sodium hydroxide and other chemicals used to process syabu,” he said during a press conference at the state police headquarters here yesterday.

Comm Chuah said the suspect could have been operating alone for a month, but might also have an accomplice.

“We are trying to trace where he obtained the meth oil, as it may lead to other syabu producers,” he said.

Comm Chuah said the suspect, who has two previous criminal cases, would be remanded until Sunday to facilitate investigation.

The case is being probed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty.
