PORT DICKSON

Octogenarian Wong She Siang was elated when he saw a “dancing rooster” in striking colours in front of his home at Rumah Sejahtera Jimah here.

Within seconds, the “dancing rooster” was joined by “a dancing hen and chicks” which made their way into the old folks home.

Once inside, the “dancing family” – who were actually employees of the Lexis Hotel Group – continued to entertain the 87-year-old Penang-born Wong and the home’s 19 other residents.

The group had visited the home to spread cheer during the Lunar New Year season.

“I have never seen anything like this before. A dancing rooster, hen and chicks complete with accompanying music to welcome the Chinese New Year ... it was marvellous,” said Wong, who has been living at the home for the last 11 years.

After its lively performance, the rooster family made way for a lion dance troupe, accompanied by a lioness and a cub.

They continued to entertain the residents with their deft moves while distributing mandarin oranges and cookies to the elderly folks.

Lexis Hotel Group area vice-president Chan Hon Ming said the “dancing rooster family” idea came from its employees.

“Our staff came up with the colourful costumes and the dance routines as well,” he said, adding that the annual event was part of the hotel’s corporate social responsibility programme.

Chan and Grand Lexis Port Dickson manager Kelviin Lee later joined the residents to toss yee sang.

The residents were given ang pow, foodstuff and toiletries. They were also treated to a sumptuous lunch prepared by the hotel chefs.

Home chairman M. Perumal expressed his gratitude to the hotel group for sharing the joy of Chinese New Year with the residents.
