The National Police Commission (Napolcom) said the fate of embattled police officers Director General Joel Pagdilao and Chief Superintendent Edgardo Tinio hangs in the balance as the nation awaits President Rodrigo Duterte’s final verdict in the coming days on the two police officers whom he publicly named as narco-cops.

NAPOLCOM vice-chairman Rogelio Casurao said the commission had already submitted its recommendation to the Palace is now awaiting the president’s final decision.

He noted that the piles of documents on the complaints against the two police officers are now at the desk of the president saying “that it is up to the chief executive to make the announcement’’.

Casurao clarified that the cases being administrative in nature are still subject to further scrutiny as the president may agree or overturn the outcome of the commission’s recommendation.

“I do not want to preempt the President. In this administrative case anything can still happen,’’ Casurao said.

Casurao explained that it would have been different if the charges were criminal in nature adding that in that situation it would be very hard to pin them down easily.

He added that policemen guilty of administrative cases are meted with expulsion or separation from the service and forfeiture of retirement benefits with no jail term.

Earlier, all members of the anti-illegal drug team of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) both formerly under Pagdilao and Tinio were relieved and reassigned to the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Sources said that some members of that team went absence without leave (AWOL) and now are the subject of dismissal proceedings by the commission.
