(KPL) Representatives of the Institute for Legislative Research under the Lao National Assembly Standing Committee and the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Committee for Deputy Affairs have agreed to further promote cooperation between the two agencies.

The Lao side was led by the Director of the Institute for Legislative Research, Khampheuy Panmalaythong, and Vietnamese side was led by Head of the NA Committee for Deputy Affairs Tran Van Tuy.

The two sides discussed future cooperation at their talks in Vientiane on Feb 16 where they committed to working closely to draft an agreement on cooperation in training the members of the Lao National Assembly and those of the provincial and Vientiane Capital People’s Councils over the next five years.

The centre for training elected deputies of the Vietnamese NA Committee for Deputy Affairs will support its Lao counterpart in building training programmes for 2016-2020, and provide training courses for NA deputies and members of provincial-level People’s Councils.

The meeting is ongoing further implementation of the memorandum of understanding on their future cooperation, which focuses on giving advice on outlining a draft cooperation agreement in training NA and People’s Council members of Laos.
