KG BATU AMPAR, BRUNEI-MUARA

A senior citizen suffered a minor hand injury yesterday in a fire that destroyed a wooden house he was living in at Kampong Batu Ampar.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, two fire engines from the Pengkalan Batu Fire Station rushed to the scene at 10.42am after receiving a distress call.

However upon arrival, the firefighters saw that the blaze had already spread throughout the whole house, which was made mostly from wood and zinc.

All the residents were evacuated from the house. The injured elder was brought to the health clinic of Pengkalan Batu for treatment.

The total loss is estimated at BND$60,000.

Following initial investigation, it was believed that the fire started from faulty wiring infested with termites.
