Treasury Dept', DARe Conducted Session on Government Payment Process

 April 20th, 2016  |  05:40 AM  |   8559 views

BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA

The Treasury Department, in collaboration with the Darussalam Enterprise (DARe), yesterday conducted a focus group session to educate both vendors and government agencies on the government payment process at the Level 1 Auditorium of iCentre, Berakas.

Present as guest of honour was Awang Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Permanent Secretary (Performance) at the Ministry of Finance, who also led the dialogue session during the second half of the sharing session.

The event sought to help relevant stakeholders have a better understanding of government procurement and payment procedures, to have them be aware of the necessary documents to streamline the process, as well as the importance of the issuance of a purchase order.

This was all stated by Awang Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin, Acting Deputy Accountant General, who highlighted the procurement and payment process in his presentation.

Maswadi also informed that every purchase made should be accompanied by the Purchase Order (PO) document from the Treasury Accounting and Financial System (TAFIS) which will give an assurance to the vendor that the procurement has been entered into the TAFIS and the budget is encumbered, which in turn will expedite the payment process.

During the event, the Acting Deputy Accountant General stated that the Treasury Department has established clinic sessions for vendors who seek advice or lodge a complaint on their payment.

The clinic session is held on Monday to Thursday and Saturday from 8.30am to 3.30pm at the Financial Service counters located at Level 2 of the Treasury Department in the Ministry of Finance building.

It eyes to strengthen the assistance given to vendors who face issues with their payments.

Vendors are required to bring along relevant documents such as POs, invoices, contract or award letters upon scheduling a session.

Through these clinic sessions, vendors would have the accessibility to enquire on the status of their payment directly to the Treasury Department and relevant ministries and departments will also be invited to join the session.

Apart from the clinic session for vendors, the Treasury Department is also carrying out ongoing clinic sessions for government agencies, with an objective of enhancing the ministries' and their respective departments' understanding on the procurement/payment procedures and resolve issues in a more orderly manner.
