Groundbreaking Heart Disease Myths Exposed

NATURALNEWS.COM

The statistics on heart disease – the number one killer of men and women in the United States – are truly staggering. According to the American College of Cardiology, every year about 785,000 Americans have a first coronary attack, while another 470,000 people who have already had one or more attacks will suffer yet another one.

According to many integrative healthcare providers, including Thomas Cowan, MD, the conventional medical approach to preventing heart disease simply misses the mark – while causing unnecessary loss of life and suffering.

Discover facts about the heart – RARELY discussed in public and often ignored by Western medicine. On the next NaturalHealth365 Talk Hour, Jonathan Landsman and Thomas Cowan, MD, a leading expert on alternative medicine and heart disease talk about the failure of ‘modern’ medicine to adequately address coronary disease – and reveal a revolutionary new way to protect your heart. If you’ve already suffered heart attacks, or would like to effectively prevent them, don’t miss this lifesaving program.

The current theory and treatment of heart disease falls short

According to Dr. Cowan, the current epidemic of heart disease is worsened by many of the things people are told to do to prevent it. “People don’t know how to keep their cardiovascular system healthy,” notes Dr. Cowan, who maintains that eating a low-fat diet, as recommended by the American Heart Association, can actually worsen heart problems.

The ideal diet to prevent heart disease, Dr. Cowan says, is one high in natural fats but low in processed sugars and refined carbohydrates.

In the view of mainstream medicine, heart attacks – or myocardial infarctions – are caused by plaque buildups that cause blockages, and getting rid of the blockages is a priority. But Dr. Cowan points out that surgery, while it benefits very high-risk patients, only relieves symptoms such as chest pain, and doesn’t help prevent further heart attacks.

In reality: It is imbalances in the autonomic nervous system, as well as buildup of lactic acid in heart cells, that actually cause heart attacks, reveals Dr. Cowan. He recommends that the parasympathetic nervous system be “nourished” by such beneficial factors as contact with nature, loving relations and, of course, the best that nutrition has to offer.

Vitamin E stops fats from creating dangerous free radicals

In terms of a nutritional supplement tip, Dr. Cowan advises taking vitamin E – which he notes is the most potent lipid antioxidant in the human body. An ideal source for vitamin E is organic red palm oil.

Vitamin E is designed by nature to stop fats in the body from turning rancid and creating toxic free radicals, which cause aging and deterioration of tissues that can lead to disease. Vitamin E also reduces platelet aggregation – meaning it stops blood platelets from clumping together and forming clots, thereby preventing arterial plaque from rupturing.

It also improves the metabolism of heart cells, and stimulates the formation of new small blood vessels in the heart.

In addition, as far as a food fact, Dr. Cowan sees the commercial milling of wheat used in foods as an unhealthy development – since the germs of grains are rich in healthy fats and vitamin E. Vitamin E, which is always naturally found in plant and animal tissues that contain fats, is in the process of being “refined out” of foods by commercial processing – another reason to eat whole, unprocessed, heart-protective foods.

To be perfectly clear: Virtually everything we’ve been told about the cause of heart attacks and heart disease is wrong. Join us this Sunday to hear the science-based, groundbreaking truths about the heart and avoiding premature death from coronary heart disease.

Thomas Cowan, MD., a leading authority on nutrition, homeopathy and herbal medicine, is the author of The Fourfold Path to Healing, and Human Heart, Cosmic Heart – A Doctor’s Quest to Understand, Treat and Prevent Cardiovascular Disease. As an inspiration to his own philosophy of health, he claims the work of Weston Price, author of Nutrition and Physical Degeneration, and reports he has also been inspired by Rudolph Steiner’s theory of biodynamic agriculture.

Dr. Cowan graduated from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, performed his residency in Family Practice at Johnson City Hospital in New York, and now resides and practices in San Francisco. He has served as vice president of the Physicians Association for Anthroposophic Medicine, and is a founding board member of the Weston A. Price Foundation. He also writes Ask the Doctor, a column in the quarterly publication Wise Traditions in Food, Farming and the Healing Arts.
