Following the recent fire that gutted the Kampung Mentiri National Housing Scheme Mosque, the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has taken the initiative to utilise the Mukim Mentiri Community Hall to fulfil the needs of the congregants in the said national housing area and the surrounding areas. The initiative was taken by the Brunei Muara District Office and the Mosque Affairs Department. This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs in a joint Media Conference with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Education yesterday afternoon.
Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof explained that the Mukim Mentiri Community Hall will be used for the obligatory prayers, especially the Maghrib, Isha' and Friday prayers. The hall will also be utilised for religious activities such as Al-Quran and Muqaddam classes, Sunat Tarawih prayers, and the sunat Hari Raya prayer. The Permanent Secretary added the Community Hall can accommodate 800 congregants and several tents are also being erected in the hall's compound, which will eventually accommodate up to one thousand four hundred people. Regarding earlier reservations or bookings by the public for private functions such as weddings, it is for the well-being of the concerned parties that initiative will not disrupt the plans, especially the renting of the hall for weddings.
In this regard, members of the public who have booked the hall earlier, can use the facilities of the nearby secondary school and religious halls such as the Hall of the Pehin Dato Seri Maharaja Mentiri Secondary School, the Surau of the Mentiri National Housing Scheme Fire and Rescue Station, the Kampung Mentiri Mosque, Kampung Sungai Besar Mosque and Kampong Sungai Buluh Mosque.
