Prosperous Program For 30 Sabah Villages

NABAWAN

Rural Development Ministry will implement the Prosperous Village Program in 30 villages in the state this year.

Disclosing this here on Friday, its minister Datuk Seri Panglima Radin Malleh said the villages, especially the poor ones, would have to be identified by the District Offices.

“This program reflects the commitment of the Barisan National (BN) government to improve the quality of life of the villagers in this state,” he said when closing the Village Community Joint Planning Workshop in preparation for action plans under the program held at the Cultural Hall Kampung Balaron Sapulut here on Friday.

He said the District Offices had been tasked with identifying these villages as they had the necessary knowledge to do so.

In Nabawan, he said the program under his ministry in collaboration with the Rural Development Institute (INFRA) Sabah and Nabawan District Office aimed to build and develop Kampung Balaron here to eradicate poverty.

He said this also shows that the government had never neglected the welfare of villagers and those selected were lucky for being chosen for the program.

Radin said the program was also aimed at transforming the backward villages and this would be a boost because it involves human capital development, accelerates economic progress and raises the standards of living of the people.

“We hope that with the involvement and cooperation of all residents to ensure the success of this program, the transformation of Kampung Balaron will result in the prosperity of the village and to be on par with the developed villages in the state.

“To ensure the successful implementation of this program, two main strategies will be adopted. Fristly, the program will be integrated by a number of state and federal agencies.

“My ministry will be the main coordinator at the state level while the District Office will coordinate at the district level and the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) as the coordinator at the village level.

“Secondly, the program is based on the approach of the Action Plan Planning Preparation for joint participation of the villagers because they are more familiar with surroundings of their hometown.

“This ministry will give priority to the views of residents who will continue the success of this program in the future,” he said.

He hoped the two-day workshop with villagers, participants would always spur active participation  in activities mainly to provide comments and suggestions so that all the problems and potential of this village can be identified by the government.

Radin said the District Office would submit the project to his ministry for consideration.

“If the application is approved, the provision to implement the project will be channeled to the District Office of Nabawan.

“Projects that cannot be funded by his ministry will be proposed to the state and federal agencies for funds to finance the implementation of projects under the action plan,” he said.

Radin said to ensure smooth implementation of the project regular monitoring would be conducted by all agencies involved and submit recommendations to the ministry for improvement of the program.

Present at the event were Radin’s wife Datin Seri Panglima Angeline Tom, Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development and Nabawan assemblyman Datuk Bobbey Ahfang Suan,State INFRA  director Hassim Alang Abdul Hamid, District Officer Fredian Gan, heads of the State and Federal government departments and community leaders.
