The 2017 Harmonious Family Recreation and Cycling activity is the main event of this year's National Family Day that invites the public to turn the healthy lifestyle into a culture.  It is also a way to nurture solidarity through the understanding of the sporting culture and the involvement of family members in all levels of society.  The event will take place on Sunday, the 7th of May at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien in the capital, starting at seven in the morning.   Information on the National Family Day celebration which carries the theme, "Keluargaku Penyayang, Negara Gemilang" was disclosed at a Media conference this morning.

The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports explained that the theme of the National Family Day signifies the importance of a loving, united and caring family.  Members of such family always respect each other, communicate well and share the common responsibility of ensuring the future of the family, society and country.  According to Datin Paduka Doctor Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, the celebration's format this year is to raise awareness on the importance of loving one another in the family to create happiness and harmony.

Also speaking was Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yussof, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs who highlighted the National Family Day will begin with the Kesyukuran Ceremony starting with the mass Maghrib and Isha' prayers, the reading of Surah Yasin, Tahlil and Special National Family Day 'doa on Saturday the 6th of May at mosques in the four districts.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs explained that the 16 kilometre Family Recreation and Cycling activity will cover areas around Bandar Seri Begawan.  Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof said more family activities will be held to further enliven the event during the Bandarku Ceria programme.

The 2017 National Family Day Celebration is jointly organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry Culture, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Health.  During the Cycling event a number of roads will be closed from six in the morning.  Members of the public wishing to participate in the cycling activity are advised to take safety measures such as wearing safety helmets during the ride. Apart from that, a Premier Talk on Strengthening the Family Institution will take place during the Family Assembly at the International Convention Centre in Berakas on Sunday.
