Radio Brunei Service should empower itself with innovative and engaging technology and contents or products to be able to reach all levels of the community so they would appreciate and never forget its good services. The Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office said Radio Brunei is the voice of Brunei even though it faces several challenges and competition in this era. Speaking during the launch of the Diamond Jubilee or 60 Years of Radio Brunei yesterday, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hamdan bin Haji Abu Bakar, said all radio staff should work harder and sincerely to ensure the interests of the department survive and stay relevant.
Earlier, Awang Haji Muhammad Suffian bin Haji Bungsu, the Director of RTB in his address said the national station realises the importance of planning, taking strategic measures and activating roles towards creating a public broadcasting atmosphere which is more sustainable, competitive and progressive. This is to ensure a positive and beneficial impact on the community and the nation.
In his speech, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hamdan added Radio Brunei should always assess the best practices that lead towards being a Centre of Excellence and should always be aware of the developments of Info-communications Technology, ICT. The Minister highlighted that in the internet era, it is important to encourage technology which supports the existence of Radio among the people, especially the younger generation. In this regard all parties; Radio Television Brunei in particular, should be determined and committed to produce better and progressive programmes. This could be achieved through networking with Government and non-government agencies in transforming the audience's mindset for the excellence and effectiveness of the service.
There was a performance of Bujang SiGandam, a local Radio Brunei programme which was very popular in the sixties and seventies.
