National athletes who are selected to compete in the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku, Azerbaijan are reminded not to waste such an opportunity. In fact, they should use the opportunity to not only to gain experience but also to compete at their best. The reminder was made by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Saadul Khairi Waddien, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympics Council in a sabda during the National Flag Handover Ceremony to the country's contingent yesterday.
The text of His Royal Highness' sabda was read by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohamad Yusof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. In the sabda, athletes are also reminded to be more responsible and highly disciplined when they are in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Earlier, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in his welcoming speech touched on the aspirations of the country's athletes to witness the success of the national athletes in the global arena. In the eyes of the world, the minister added, the country's participation in the competition portrays the support towards the solidarity of the ummah through sports.
The country's contingent consists of 6 members including 2 athletes who will compete in Karate and the men's 200 metre sprint. The national flag was handed over to Retired Colonel Pengiran Haji Zulkifli bin Pengiran Haji Ismail, Chef de Mission.
