Community involvement is very important to help those in need of treatment due to drug addiction.

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah said the government was aware of the drug addiction problem which was spreading and causing children and young people to be  victims.

He said the government had therefore established many medical, treatment and recovery services for all ages who had drug addiction problems.

The treatments and services included Pemulihan 1Malaysia, and Cure & Care Rehabilitation Centre (CCRC), which had expanded at community level, he said when launching the state-level Anti-Drugs Week 2017 at Kompleks Pentadbiran Kerajaan Persekutuan Sabah Auditorium along Jalan UMS here, yesterday.

People should have a healthy lifestyle and be sensitive towards changes in their children, especially teenagers, in order for the children not to be involved in drugs, he said, adding that people should work together to make the community safe from drugs.

Meanwhile, Sabah Health Department director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi said the Anti-Drugs Week was being organized by the Sabah Health Department (JKNS) since 2015.

Christina said the annual event was coordinated by the Food Quality and Safety Division and had chosen ‘Healthy Generation Without Drugs’ as this year’s theme.

She also said various activities were being held during the Anti-Drugs Week, such as random urine tests, study tours at CCRC in Papar and Solace Rehabilitation Centre, poster drawing competition, scrap book and short video making involving school students.

Sabah Health Department deputy director Dr Misliah Ahmad read Christina’s speech.
