BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The participation of local and foreign entrepreneurs in the 1st Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Expo which carries the theme, "MADE IN BRUNEI MARKETING FAIR" was very encouraging.

In an interview with RTB, the Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister's Office explained the expo gave investors and distributors the opportunity to establish partnerships and assist local companies to develop and improve their overseas marketing potential. The Minister said the MSME Expo held at the Bridex Hall in Jerudong also benefited the country.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri (Retired) Colonel Dato Seri Setia (Dr.) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar said the event placed the country's MSMEs and their products on the forefront and the participation of foreign enterprises can create networking which is vital to their marketing. Secondly, it was also a way to assess the quality of the products and to improve them by comparing with those showcased by their foreign counterparts. Thirdly, it is important that the future direction of the country's economy to focus on the Digital Economy where the participation of the local MSMEs will revolve around e-commerce.

The Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister's Office also expressed the hope that the expo would consolidate entrepreneurs and companies from the various sectors to contribute towards the country's economic growth. This is vital in economic terms as well as in generating job opportunities. Yang Berhormat Pehin added the start-ups who participated in the expo have provided jobs to a number of locals in their companies and that some of the more established medium enterprises are capable of providing up to sixty job opportunities.
