BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

131 officers and staff of the Ministry of Home Affairs and departments under it received the Pingat Kerja Lama (PKL) or Long Service Medal. The medals were awarded in conjunction with last year's 70th birthday of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. The awards were presented during the ministry's Isra' Mi'raj celebration yesterday.

In a speech, Awang Salminan bin Haji Burut, the Director of Immigration and National Registration said the awarding of the medals was meant to motivate the recipients and other employees of the Ministry and departments under it to improve their work performance and responsibilities.

The ceremony was conducted by the Immigration and National Registration Department.  There was a special talk on the relation between Iman or faith and amanah or trust by Awang Haji Sammali bin Haji Adam, an officer from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, UNISSA.  Among other matters, the talk highlighted that the Isra' Mi'raj taught the Muslims to strengthen their faith and identity by carrying out their duties and the trust placed upon them with full responsibility.

The Pingat Kerja Lama medals were presented by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doktor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, the Minister of Home Affairs.  Also present were Members of the Legislative Council and Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs.  The recipients are those with good service records, who are dedicated, hardworking and committed in respective jobs. The ceremony also coincided with the presentation of Certificate of Service to 131 retired employees of the Ministry of Home Affairs and departments under it.
