According to a report from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang said that “China attaches great importance to the strategic cooperation with its partners, and is willing to work with Brunei in expanding bilateral cooperation to become bigger partners.”

He also stated “China is willing to work with Brunei and other countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) to safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea area, and hopes Brunei will continue to play an active role in strengthening China-Asean relations.”

Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, who attended the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, said that China’s hosting of the forum was of “historical and global significance”; and extended his wishes for its success.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II of Brunei also said that efforts should be made to enhance bilateral pragmatic cooperation in trade, investment, and other fields under the frameworks of the Belt and Road initiative, while adding that Brunei will continue to play a positive role in properly handling the South China Sea issue.
