JS Kirisame docked at Muara Port

​Fostering friendship and closer cooperation in the naval military are among the objectives of the visit by the crew of the Japan Navy Ship, JS Kirisame to the country. The ship is currently docking at Muara Port for a two-day visit.
Captain Tomonari Kobayashi, Commander Escort Division Eight of JMSDF paid a courtesy call to First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, Deputy Minister of Defence. Captain Kobayashi also paid a courtesy call to Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) and Captain Haji Othman bin Haji Suhaili @ Suhaily, Acting Commander of the RBN. Both officials discussed mutual security issues and bilateral relations between the two countries, notably in defence.
The delegation also made a courtesy call on Noriko Iki, Ambassador of Japan TO Brunei Darussalam.
During the visit, they discussed capacity building for Asean member countries based on the Vientiane Vision, which is Japan’s defence cooperation initiative with Asean announced at the 2nd Asean-Japan Defence Military Ministers Informal Meeting in Vientiane, Lao PDR on November 2016.
KDB Darulaman and JS Kirisame will be involved in the Passage Exercise tomorrow.
JS Kirisame is the fourth of nine Murasame class destroyer commissioned in 1999. Captain Tomonori Kobayashi, Commanding Officer of Escort Division 8 hoped that the visit will further strengthen cooperation with the Royal Brunei Navy. With 200 crews, JS Kirisame stops by to Brunei before departing back to Japan.
