More than 500 people took to the road in Tutong District yesterday, in support of the non-profit organisation, Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei by joining the 'Belusir 2016'.
Malai Haji Abdullah bin Malai Haji Othman, the President of SMARTER Brunei, said that the charity run aimed to show a high level of community awareness, which was another step towards the integration of individuals with autism into society.
Hosted by Seas Company, 'Belusir 2016' was divided into several categories.
Winning first place in the women's category of the 5km race was Dayang Fatin binti Ismail, while Awang Muhd Qamarul Arifin bin Hifni won the men's category. Dawn Levell won the 13km race for women, and Awang Muhammad Samsul bin Zamri won first place for the men's category. The 13km race for veteran women was won by Airinice Williams, while Awang Hassan bin Haji Kamis won the 13km race for men.
The guest of honour was Awang Haji Adnan bin Haji Adam, the Acting Tutong District Officer, who also joined in the race for a good cause.
Founded by a group of parents and family members in 2001, SMARTER Brunei continues to be a resilient organisation, despite financial constraints, and is now one of the most respected autism centres for education in the region.
