To assist the countries poor and destitute, the Brunei Islamic Religious Council, MUIB has distributed zakat or tithe money to such a group in Temburong District. The distribution of the Zakat took place at the district's Religious Affairs Office.
Twenty one families received assistance in the form of basic necessities. Another recipient, Awang Khairul Nawar bin Esmed received a boat and an engine as well as fishing equipment. The contributions totalling $16,929 were from the Zakat or Tithe Funds of the MUIB for the Poor and Destitute.
Khairul Nawar currently has no stable income and heavily relies on fishing to support his family’s daily needs.
Presenting the contribution was Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs as the Vice Yang Dipertua of MUIB.
Meanwhile at the Selapon Da'wah Post, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and delegation handed over aid in the form of basic necessities donated by the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Association to four Muslim convert families.
