A commendation ceremony was held in the capital city on Saturday for 400 Vietnamese exemplars in various fields.

The ceremony was held by the Central Council for Emulation and Reward.

Vice President Đặng Thị Ngọc Thịnh, First Vice Chairwoman of the council, said the emulation movement, sparked by people from all strata and in all spheres, has helped the nation successfully carry out socio-economic development tasks.

She said the 400 role models, introduced by localities, ministries, sectors and central organisations, represent millions of collectives and individuals nationwide who are devoting themselves to their work and study, thus substantially contributing to national security and growth.

About 88 per cent of the role models are individuals and the remaining are collectives.

The role models come from all walks of life, including farmers, war veterans and outstanding workers. Notably, there are many young, dynamic talents born in the nineties who have served the country’s integration process.

The oldest is 71-year-old Vũ Văn Thuận, who’s made outstanding contributions to building a new-style rural area in Hải Dương Province. The youngest is Huỳnh Hoàng Khánh, 14, an excellent, innovative student at the Him Lam Ethnic Minority Boarding School in Hậu Giang Province.

Speaking at the ceremony, Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng said that apart from the 400 role models feted, there were countless unsung heroes in many fields across the country.

They are driven by patriotism, their resolve to enrich themselves and their homeland, and the aspiration to grasp new scientific and technological knowledge, he said. These people are the core of the emulation movement, he added

Trọng asked the council, ministries, sectors, localities, the Việt Nam Fatherland Front and organisations at all levels to launch emulation movements across the nation to arouse patriotism and national pride. — VNS
