A man suffered burns on his shoulder when he attempted to save his personal belongings in a fire that destroyed workers’ quarters in Kampung Labuk Bagiang Serusup on Friday morning.

Tuaran Fire and Rescue Station Chief Mohd Asnan Led said that the incident occurred at 12.10am.

“We received a distress call from one of the residents at around 12.15am. We then sent nine firefighters to the place of incident.

“As the team arrived at the said location, which is 12km away, at around 12.30 am, the team discovered that a big part of the 10-door dwelling was already destroyed,” Asnan said.

It was understood that the 150×20 square foot qaurters was owned by chicken farm workers.

To prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby areas, the firefighters used water sourced from their machinery.

They managed to put out the fire at around 1.30am and only one of the residents suffered burns due to his attempt in saving his personal belongings.

“The EMRS team had attended the injured person at the scene before they proceeded to send him to the hospital for further treatment.

“The victim is now reported to be in stable condition and the entire rescue operation ended at around 2.10am,” he said, adding that the cause of the fire and the total loss could not be immediately determined
