Two Programs Upgrade Levels Of Literacy And Numeracy

JAKARTA
The Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman attended the Opening Ceremony of the 49th East Asian Ministers of Organization of the Organization (49th SEAMEO Conference) held in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia .
The SEAMEO Council (SEAMEC) Conference, which dates from 24 to 26 July 2017, was attended by other Education Ministers from Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines and Thailand, Singapore's Senior Minister of State and Vice-Minister of Education from Viet Nam.
At this year's conference, Thailand's Minister of Education, His Excellency. Teerakiat Jareonsettasin MD who is also the President of the SEAMEO Board has handed over the Chairman of the Conference to the Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture, His Excellency Professor Dr. Muhadjir Effendy who serves as the 49th President of the SEAMEO Council for a two-year period.
In the opening speech, the Minister of Education, among others, emphasizes the National Literacy and Numeracy Standards (LNNS), and the Literacy and Numeracy Guidance Program (LNCP) which has been carried out by the Ministry of Education.
LNNS has been implemented to increase the level of English literacy and numeracy among schoolchildren in Brunei Darussalam to equip them for higher schooling levels while LNCP aims to make systemic improvements in the quality of literacy and numeracy teaching and learning.
The 49th SEAMEO Council Conference, among others, approved the establishment of three new regional centers namely the SEAMEO Technical Education Development Center (SEAMEO TED) hosted by Cambodia, SEAMEO Regional Center for Child and Family Early Childhood Care (SEAMEO CECCEP) hosted by Indonesia and SEAMEO Regional Education Development Center (SEAMEO CED) hosted by Lao People's Democratic Republic.
With these three new centers, SEAMEO now has 24 regional centers and networks located throughout Southeast Asia. 7 SEAMEO Priority Areas were also discussed during the Third Education Minister's Strategic Dialogue (SDEM3), on the second day of the conference.
Also present at the Minister of Education is the Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Datin Paduka Dr. Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd. Salleh.
