Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Primary School held an Award Ceremony for Teachers and Outstanding Students in Primary School Assessment (PSR) 2015 at its multipurpose hall yesterday.

The guest of honour was Ahmad Jefri bin Abdul Rahman, Acting Assistant Managing, Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs, Brunei Investment Agency and a member of the Board of Directors of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, who presented the awards to the recipients.

In his speech, he said that the ceremony helps to motivate and inspire the students to continuously work hard to achieve good results and realise the school's vision and mission.

He said that the recipients should be seen as role models to other students in the academic and non-academic fields, self-discipline as well as good manners.

He added that schools are facing various challenges due to the fast development of education, higher expectations from the stakeholders and intense competition and requirements of globalisation that keep changing due to Information Technology.

"I hope the school authorities continuously enhance the quality of teaching and learning in terms of facilities, teaching aids and approaches that should be practical and effective," he said.

He said that teachers should also be given an opportunity to attend courses to enhance their knowledge and skills.

In his speech, Alimas bin Haji Mohd Ali, Acting Principal of YSHHB, shared that in 2015, a total of 116 students sat for the PSR examination, of whom 44 obtained 5A and another 18 obtained 4A.

He said every year, the school has various initiatives, strategies and methods of teaching to enhance the percentage of students passes in PSR examination such as providing conducive method of teaching for students who are slow and weak, extra classes every Friday, early intervention class, and 'team teaching' to assist students who are weak in certain subjects.

A total of 44 outstanding students in PSR 2015 and eight PSR teachers received the awards from the guest of honour.
