Four Housebreaking Gang Members Arrested

SANDAKAN

 

Police here have detained a group identified as “Geng Mawar” who actively committed housebreaking activities at Taman Mawar residential area.

 

District chief police, ACP Mohd Azhar Hamin said the Geng Mawar which comprised four suspects between 18 and 38 years old were arrested with the collaboration of Criminal Investigation Department and public.

 

“Three of the suspects tested positive for drug abuse. They had committed 13 housebreaking cases at Taman Mawar area with RM63,035 losses incurred by victims,” he said in a press conference at Sandakan Town police station, yesterday.

 

In another case, he said the police had also arrested three suspects aged 18 to 30 for committed various house breaking, vehicle breaking and motorcycle theft cases around this district.

 

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old local man was also arrested for luring and robbing his female acquaintance whom he knew through social media.

 

The modus operandi used by the suspect was to get acquainted with the women before inviting them to meet and rob the victims which he took to a isolated area and robbed them with a knife point.

 

The suspect had also impersonated himself as a policeman and possessing fake pistol with its PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police) logo on its cover.

 

Earlier, Azhar said the crimes index for this district was now approaching to critical rate with 54.05 percent or 399 cases reported.

 

Therefore, he urged public to be vigilant all the time, to properly lock their property and never be deceived by stranger through social media to avoid untoward incident.
