GE14 ‘mother of all elections’

KOTA BATU

KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia’s 14th general election (GE14) is the mother of all elections as it would determine Umno’s future in the country, said Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

“The election this time, frankly, is the election that determines the future of our children, whether Umno can continue or not,” said Bung Moktar.

“Many international political experts have predicted that the 14th GE in our country is the mother of all elections.

“If Umno, according to it (prediction), can survive and win in the election, Umno will continue to survive another 50 to 100 years. That is why it is important to us,” he said.

According to Bung Moktar, who is also Kinabatangan MP, the next election is expected to happen in three to six months time.

“The next GE, if we count with our fingers, is maybe in another three months, four months, or the longest, six months.”

He early preparation was needed from all quarters and but most importantly, every single person in the party must stay united despite differences, including that of opinion.

He said the power to determine the future of the next Malaysian generation could slip through the fingers if members sabotaged their own party.

“If we wager this bit of power, then other parties with the ambition to seize it will take the opportunity to defeat us in our struggles.

“I and (Chief Minister) Datuk Seri Musa (Aman) have many times disagreed. But when I disagreed I did not ruin the party,” said the Umno Supreme Council member.

“I will clearly say I do not really agree but if he (Umno president) had made a decision, agree to disagree. We have to agree because he is our chief.

“Before a decision is made, we can make our argument. After the decision has been made, we have to accept it.

“If everybody wants to be the chief, then our organization will be in trouble. There must be one head and one voice heard, that is all.

“If we understand this, our party will not be weak and we will be in power forever,” he added.

Bung Moktar also warned members against being influenced by the opposition’s spinning voice.

“We made a mistake such as the 1MDB issue; 72 times the government explained to the opposition, community through forums, seminars and so on, but they still keep on spinning it non-stop.

“We can’t really be mad at them because it is their duty as the opposition to weaken our party.

“I have asked Rafizi (Ramli) and Azmin Ali about why they always like to spin things. They responded ‘Eh Bung, don’t you know this is what we do? If we spin then you have to work. The important thing is our message has been caught by the rakyat.’

“So do not play. Whether it is true or not, they will do to convince the rakyat at the lower level that Umno and Barisan Nasional is weak,” he warned when officiating at the Puteri Umno Sepanggar Division delegates meeting here yesterday.

Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid, acting Umno Sepanggar Division chief Datuk Yakub Khan and Puteri Umno Sepanggar Division head Fadilah Sarbi were among those at the ceremony.

Earlier on during the event, Fadilah said Sepanggar had the largest number of voters that almost hit 60,000 in the state.

“For young women, it has been recorded that almost 13,000 voters under the age of 40 will take place in the next general election,” disclosed Fadilah, adding that the number accounted for almost 22 percent of voters in Sepanggar.

“The total amount of voters under 40 in Sepanggar is almost 45 percent,” she added.

According to Fadilah, the Puteri Umno Sepanggar Division will identify voters at all of the 155 localities in the area.
