‘Big brother’ Umno will not bully BN ‘siblings’

KOTA KINABALU

Umno as the “big brother” in Barisan Nasional (BN) will not bully the other component parties.

Instead, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Johari Abd Ghani said the party would help them just as they had helped the party during the time it was weak.

Johari said this when officiating at Umno Kota Kinabalu Delegates conference here yesterday.

He said, “when Umno was weak, our “younger siblings” MCA, MIC and Gerakan as well as other BN component parties were there to help us get through it and that is why we were victorious.

“Now they are not as strong as before and it is Umno’s turn to help them and this is in the spirit of BN,” the Second Finance Minister said.

He pointed out that in Sabah, Umno would be there to fully support all BN candidates in the coming election, and added, “in Kota Kinabalu, even if we do not get the opportunity to contest (in the 14th general election) we must help our fellow component members in BN.”

“This is the spirit of BN and the BN spirit is strong in Sabah. Even though we may not like some leaders, we keep the feeling aside because we are like brothers and sisters. We will help our siblings who are weaker than us,” he stressed.

Johari reminded the delegates to always ensure that they had  patience and sincerity in order to keep the struggles of Umno alive.

“These two characteristics were what our predecessors had and in order to continue with what they had fought for and won, we too must have patience and sincerity,” Johari stressed.

“We need to preserve what past Umno leaders have done for us and for our future generations so that they can inherit the power we have been holding,” he said.

He also said that BN would not betray Sabah and Sarawak as it needed their support to continue governing the country.

Johari in his speech reminded the delegates not to take the political stability in the state for granted and do their best to ensure its continuity.

“Take for example the Philippines, which was the second richest country in Asia after Japan before we attained our independence. But because of political instability in the country, its economy has suffered,” he pointed out.

“So just ignore the opposition’s claims that Malaysia’s does not have political stability because this is not true. BN staying in power means political stability in the country,” he said.
