Convocation of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office in a sabda stresses it is most appropriate that the graduates of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute upgrade their knowledge and be proficient in various disciplines of beneficial knowledge and skills to spur the nation towards excellence guided by Al-Quran. His Royal Highness made the sabda at the 5th Convocation of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute at the International Convention Centre in Berakas this morning.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs and Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohamad Daud, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, as well as board members and Academic and Examinations Committee of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute.
Also in attendance was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah. The ceremony began with the reading of Al-Quran verses from verse 34 to 42 of Surah Ibrahim by Awangku Muhammad Abd Qadri bin Pengiran Haji Ibrahim, while the translation was read by Md Alisyahmi bin Haji Abdul Mutalip.
In his welcoming speech, the Minister of Religious Affairs among others stated that starting from this year, the 'Aliyah Qiraat diploma graduates will have the opportunity to further their studies in the Bachelor's Degree programme in Tahfiz an Qira'at at the Faculty of Usuluddin of the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA, which is a newly-introduced programme at the country's genuine Islamic University.
In the sabda, His Royal Highness expresses great pleasure in knowing the Institute to enhance the field of Quranic study in aspects of knowledge and arts such as the Tarannum or Melodic Reading of Al-Quran. Through academic collaboration with the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, the Aaliyah Qiraat Diploma graduates have the opportunity to further their studies at a higher level in the country through the Bachelor's Degree programme in Tahfiz and Qiraat.
His Royal Highness continues the sabda saying the spread of Quranic knowledge not only eliminates ignorance, but more importantly the dissemination will certainly guide society towards beneficial deeds ultimately producing a community that upholds Al-Quran and practices its teachings in daily life. However, in preparing the graduates holistically it is important that they are equipped with skills through educational disciplines which fulfil the current needs.
The ceremony was enlivened with a special talk on the Advantages of Al-Quran Huffaz or memorisers according to As-Sunnah, delivered by Doctor Arman bin Haji Asmad, Assistant Rector of the Sultan Sharif Ali islamic University, UNISSA.
His Royal Highness then consented to present the 'Aliyah Qiraat Syahadah or Diploma to 15 graduands. Out of the total, 6 graduands received Mumtaz or Excellent grades, 6 received Jayyid Jiddan or Very Good grades, while, one received the Jayyid or Good grade, while 2 received the Maqbul or pass grade. The award of the 'Aliyah Qiraat Al-Quran diploma to the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute graduates is a recognition for their success specifically in the field of Al-Quran memorising and Qiraat Knowledge.
Doa selamat was read by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal. The presence of His Royal Highness is a continuous commitment in supporting the vision of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to elevate the teaching of Al-Quran in the country, in particular, the field of Quran Memorisation at higher level with the suitable facilities.
