Pilgrims in the holy city of Makkah are reported to be in a safe condition. There have been no spread of diseases that require isolation. This was mentioned in a statement issued by the Saudi Arabian medical authorities. In this regard, focus has been given to disease prevention measures carried out with the cooperation of the World health Organisation, WHO and other international health bodies such as the Centre of Disease Control. Several emergency measures have also been enforced through the cooperation with the Saudi Arabian Red Crescent Authority. Muslim journalists who are in Jeddah on the special invitation of the Saudi Arabian government have the opportunity to take a closer look at the Saudi Arabian Red Crescent Authority Operations Centre in Makkah Al-Mukarramah.
The ambulance services provided are in the form of various vehicles such as car, motorcycle, van, bus as well as helicopter. All were fully equipped with basic emergency supplies from medicine to treatment equipment. The Saudi Arabian Red Crescent service always ensures that the ambulance services and medicine are ready during the Haj Season. Apart from ambulance services, the Saudi Arabian Red Crescent Authority also provide first aid training programmes to 2 thousand 400 volunteers at its operation centre in Jeddah, specifically for this year's haj season.
Meanwhile, to ensure that there is no epidemic transmission, the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health also collaborate with officers from WHO in Epidemiology and disease control as well as the local and foreign health officers. Measures taken include the monitoring of haj pilgrims movements and their health whereby relevant parties will take required measures if a disease has been detected.
