Bayern Munich had to put the champagne back on ice after a 1-1 draw at home to Borussia Monchengladbach meant they were still two points short of clinching a 25th Bundesliga title.

Thomas Muller put the record champions, who were hoping to celebrate winning the title in front of their own fans for the first time since 2000, in front early on, but Andre Hahn earned a spirited Gladbach side a point that keeps them in the hunt to join Bayern in the Champions League next season.

That point was not enough as a result of Borussia Dortmund's 5-1 rout of Wolfsburg, which saw Thomas Tuchel's men move within five points with two games remaining.

Two goals in as many minutes from Shinji Kagawa and Adrian Ramos set Dortmund on their way to victory before Marco Reus added a third on the hour mark.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang then struck two quick-fire goals to put the result beyond doubt before Andre Schurrle grabbed a late consolation for Wolfsburg, whose hopes of qualifying for Europe next season ended.

Bayer Leverkusen secured their place in the group stage of the Champions League next season with a 2-1 win over Hertha Berlin, who still hope to join them in European football's elite club competition next season.

Julian Brandt and Lars Bender gave Leverkusen what seemed to be a comfortable two-goal lead, but that was halved by Vedad Ibisevic.

Only the heroics of goalkeeper Rune Allmenning Jarstein saved Hertha from a heavier defeat, though, as Leverkusen put eight points between themselves and their hosts with two games of the season left, meaning they are certain to finish third this season.

Schalke kept their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season alive with a 3-1 win over relegated Hannover keeping them within reach of the top four.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting's opening goal was cancelled out by Artur Sobiech's equaliser for the hosts, but Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Alessandro Schopf ensured the Royal Blues came away with three points.

The win lifted Schalke above Mainz into sixth place after Martin Schmidt's men were held to a goalless draw by Hamburg.

That result means Mainz still need another two points to be sure of their place in Europe next season, with Cologne just five points behind them in eighth.

At the bottom of the table, Eintracht Frankfurt came from behind to beat Darmstadt 2-1 in a local derby.

Mario Vrancic gave Darmstadt the lead before Sandro Wagner missed a penalty for the hosts.

Makoto Hasebe and Stefan Aigner struck in the second half to turn the game around for Niko Kovac's men and lift them out of the bottom two, above Werder Bremen.

Bremen can move back out of the relegation zone when they face Stuttgart on Monday night, but defeat in that match would mean that Hoffenheim would be all but mathematically safe.

Hoffenheim also came from behind on Saturday to beat Ingolstadt 2-1 with Mark Uth and Nadiem Amiri cancelling out Stefan Lex's opener to earn Julian Nagelsmann's men all three points.

They could even afford for Andrej Kramaric to miss a penalty as they moved six points clear of the relegation zone.
