16th Intake Sovereign's Parade

At this morning's Sovereign's Parade, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam commissioned 32 Officer Cadets from the 16th Intake of the Officer Cadet School, Defence Academy, Royal Brunei Armed Forces as Military Officers. His Majesty also awarded the Sword of Honour and other awards to the Best Officer Cadets in each field.

 

Upon arrival at the Defence Academy Parade Ground, RBAF, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohammad Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the RBAF and Retired Captain Dato Paduka Abdul Rahman bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence.

 

Shortly after arrival, His Majesty received the Royal Salute and inspected the Guard of Honour mounted by 17 male Officer Cadets and 15 female Officer Cadets. The Guard of Honour was led by Second Lieutenant Muhd Adib Izzuddin bin Haji Rambli. The Officer Cadets had completed 52 weeks of intensive training from 9th September 2016.  The Sovereign's Parade marked the success of both the Ministry of Defence and the RBAF in producing top calibre soldiers and proved the RBAF's determination to be steadfast in carrying out the trust placed upon it to protect the peace and security of the country.

 

Since its establishment in 2008, the Officer Cadet School, Defence Academy, RBAF has produced many highly qualified Officer Cadets in the various military disciplines. With today's 16th Intake Sovereign's Parade, the number of officers commissioned at the Officer Cadet School has reached 400, including 120 women officers.

 

His Majesty then commissioned the Officer Cadets from the 16th Intake of the Officer Cadet School. At the significant event, His Majesty awarded the Sword of Honour to Officer Cadet Daniel Tanggiling. The Sword of Honour is the highest award given to an Officer Cadet who showed excellent achievement in all aspects. Officer Cadet Daniel Tanggiling has been appointed as the Head of Platoon 13, E Company, the First Battalion of the Royal Brunei Land Force.

 

The Best Academic Award was presented to Officer Cadet Fadhil bin Retired Colonel Dato Paduka Haji Joharie, based on his high overall progressive academic achievement throughout the training. Officer Cadet Fadhil has been appointed as Trainee Officer on the ship KD Brunei Darussalam, of the Royal Brunei Navy.

 

Officer Cadet Muhamad Zulfadli Hayat bin Shamsul Hayat, was selected as the recipient of the Best Military Skills Award, based on his high overall achievement in all military skills subjects. The award is based on the highest overall percentage in all Military Skills subjects. Officer Cadet Muhammad Zulfadli Hayat has been appointed as Head of Platoon 4, B Company of the Second Battalion of the Royal Brunei Land Force.

 

The Best in Physical Training Award was presented to Officer Cadet Abdul Hakim bin Haji Shahrum. The award is based on the excellent achievement of the officer cadet in physical training.  Officer Cadet Abdul Hakim has been assigned as the Head of Platoon 14, E Company, the First Battalion of the Royal Brunei Land Force.

 

Doa selamat was read by Commander Haji Ainolnizam bin Haji Ibrahim, Head of the RBAF Religious Department. From the Parade Ground, His Majesty proceeded to the Ceremonial Hall of the RBAF Defence Academy for a luncheon. At the ceremony, the Monarch received a Pasambah themed "Nur al-Haq" which signifies the "Military Light". The Pasambah symbolises the Officer Cadets of the 16th Intake as national defence assests who are equipped with enligthenment to carry out their duties and responsibilities to the nation and religion.

 

Also presented to His Majesty was the Book of the 16th Intake Officer Cadets' Journey that describes their experiences throughout the training.

 

His Majesty then received 'junjung ziarah' or greetings from the Officers and Trainers from the Officer Cadet School, Defence Academy, RBAF. His Majesty once stressed that without the commitment of the instructors, the expected results would never become a reality. According to His Majesty without top quality training, it is impossible to produce high calibre Officers.

 

His Majesty also received junjung ziarah from all the newly commissioned officer cadets and their families. His Majesty expressed pride towards the parents' moral support and blessings for their children to become the Defenders of the Country. During today's Sovereign's Parade, 22 Officer Cadets were Commissioned as Royal Brunei Land Force Officers, and 10 as Officer of the Royal Brunei Navy. They have been advised to be professional and committed in carrying out the trust place upon them. Apart from that they have also been called to continue practicing the knowledge and values learnt during the training in defending the image of the RBAF as the pillar of national defence.

 

Before leaving, His Majesty signed a parchment. His Majesty's presence reflected His Majesty's strong interest in the development and accomplishments of the Officer Cadet School, Defence Academy, Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
