BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
After performing the Sunat Aidil Adha prayer, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam proceeded to the Sacrificial Ceremony. This year, His Majesty and His Majesty's family sacrificed 155 cows, 5 buffaloes and 14 goats and the meat distributed to 12 thousand 461 poor and needy in the country. A number of the sacrificial animals were slaughtered on the compound of Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah. Also present were His Majesty's sons, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah the Crown Prince; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik; and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was welcomed by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs.
During the ceremony, His Majesty consented to slaughter His Majesty's sacrificial animal. The ceremony continued with His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen slaughtering the sacrificial animal. The slaughter of other sacrificial animals offered by His Majesty and His Majesty's Family was undertaken by Mulaut Abattoir Sendirian Berhad at its centre in Kampung Mulaut.
The qurban or sacrificial ritual has many benefits and blessings. Among the benefit is that it can strengthen religious faith as commanded by Allah Subhanahu Wataala in the holy Quran. It can also instil Mahmudah or admirable characteristics in the form of loyalty to the almighty's command and at the same, cleanse the heart from mazmumah or bad characteristics such as the love towards the worldly affairs.
Performing religious Qurban is sunat muakkad, a highly commendable act in Islam. The period of rites of sacrifice is on Hari Raya Aidil Adha as well as Tasyrik days - 11th, 12th and 13th of Zulhijjah. His Majesty's participation in the Qurban ceremony portrayed His Majesty's personality as a caring monarch to the poor and needy in the country.
