ASEAN Labour Ministers had officially endorsed and signed the joint "ASEAN Labour Ministers' Statement on Improving Occupational Safety and Health for Sustainable Economic Growth". The joint statement was signed during the Special Session for ASEAN Labour Ministers on Occupational Safety and Health, held on the margins of the 21st World Congress on Safety & Health at Work in Singapore.
In his supporting remarks during the Special Session, the Minister of Home Affairs applauded the Ministry of Manpower, Singapore, on hosting the 21st World Congress on Safety & Health at Work, the world's largest occupational safety and health event, for the first time in South East Asia. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doktor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong also expressed that the ASEAN region can learn much on approaches to safety and health in the ever-changing economic and social spheres by leveraging on ASEAN Plus Three partnerships and through relations with international expert organizations.
Yang Berhormat Pehin and the ASEAN Labour Ministers also had the opportunity to exchange views in meeting with the Secretary-General of ASEAN, the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the President of the International Social Security Association (ISSA). Following the Special Session, Yang Berhormat Pehin and ASEAN Labour Ministers attended a reception hosted by His Excellency Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore.
