KG PANDAN, KUALA BELAIT

Great news for futsal fans of Sayyidina Ali Secondary School (SMSA). Our futsal team won in the Category C (Under 18) of the Belait District Inter-School Futsal Championship. We were also the first runner-up in the Category B (Under 15).

The championship was held at the Mumong Sports Complex from April 19-23, 2016. The double knockout system was used.

The first round of Category B was held on April 19 and on April 21 the first round of Category C was held. The semifinals and finals of both categories were on April 23. It was double bonanza as our teams in both categories advanced to the final.

In Category B, there were five teams namely PJN Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar Secondary School, PAP Hajah Rashidah Secondary School, Perdana Wazir Secondary School, St Margaret's School and SMSA was the host school.

On the final day our school turned out in full force to support our teams.

In the final it was SMSA versus PJN Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar Secondary School.

It was a tough match and although our players performed well, we went down with a narrow score of 2-1. The second runner-up was Perdana Wazir Secondary School.

We were disappointed but never gave up.

The next match - the final between SMSA and Perdana Wazir Secondary School was wildly anticipated. Six teams participated in the category - the two finalists and St Margaret's School, Anthony Abell College, PJN Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar Secondary School and PAP Hajah Rashidah' Secondary School.

The final game was intense and the crowd of supporters, especially from SMSA was boisterous.

We were rewarded handsomely. Our team played confidently and we won the final 3-1. SMSA player Muhammad Nizamuddin Mukminin bin Fairulman was also elected as the best player in category C.

The second runner-up was PAP Hajah Rashidah Secondary School.

The awards were presented by the guest of honour, our Principal, Pengiran Hajah Zeiniun binti Pengiran Mudin.

There were also officers from the Belait District Co-Curriculum Department.

Other winners of the day included Adde Ismawi bin Gudang of PJN Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar Secondary School who was elected as best player in Category B and another player from the same school, Muhd Afiq Hazim bin Md Sanip was the top goal scorer in Category B.

The top goal scorer in Category C was Muhammad Nur Danish bin Haji Mohd Denis of SMSA.

Congratulations to our boys who have done so well in the championship. Hope this victory will be a motivation to all, in every other field.
