His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, attended a Wreath-laying Ceremony held at the Monument to the People's Heroes. Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was introduced to His Excellency Kong Xuanyou, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China; and His Excellency Yan Zhongqiu, Vice Chairman of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the 12th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). This was followed by the national anthems of Brunei Darussalam and China.

His Majesty then laid a wreath at the monument. The Monument to the People's Heroes, which stands in the centre of Tiananmen Square, was built as a national monument to commemorate the heroes who gave their lives in defending their nation during the 19th and 20th Centuries.
