KOTA BARU

For the first time in history, a woman has been elected as the president of the Kelantan Football Association (Kafa).

Businesswoman Bibi Ramjani Ilias Khas obtained 32 votes at the 63rd Annual Kafa Congress Sunday night, twice the number of votes of her opponent Datuk Muhammad Nasir Hamzah, who had 16 votes.

The election had to be held twice, so as to adhere to Kafa's rule that the winner must garner at least two-thirds of the vote.

Bibi emerged as the winner again during the second round of balloting.

The election also saw incumbent deputy president Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah defeating his opponent Datuk Rosmadi Ismail.

Three new faces were elected to the vice president posts, namely Datuk Mohd Aizuddin Mohd Ghazali, Datuk Nik Izani Nik Ibrahim, and Nik Pakheruddin Nik Abdul Kadir.

Bibi had earlier sought the blessing of former Kafa president Tan Sri Annuar Musa before submitting her intention to contest.
