Hours of lashing rains have created fear of another round of floodings in Penang. 

The Fire and Rescue Services Department warned on Thursday that the Sungai Pinang river had reached the danger level of 2.2m. 

High tides are predicted which could bring flash floods if the rain continues. 

A landslide along the Bukit Baru road in Balik Pulau has cut off the access route for residents heading to Bayan Lepas, Bukit Jambul and Sungai Ara. 

Traffic was reported to be at a gridlock along Bandar Baru in Air Itam, and in Bayan Baru and Bayan Lepas areas. 

Several landslides were also reported along areas in Batu Ferringhi and Balik Pulau. 

Late on Wednesday, traffic heading towards the Penang bridge was almost at a standstill with bumper to bumper traffic for about 4km on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway. 

On Sept 15, rain created havoc on the island, bringing the worst flash floods in 20 years.
