The Nationwide Cleanliness Awareness Campaign is launched yesterday throughout the country. It is one of the initiatives of the Main Committee for Cleanliness Issues with the cooperation of the Sectoral Committees of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Accession to the Throne. The campaign was launched yesterday at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien in the capital.
Present were Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar Bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah, Minister of Development; and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi, Minister of Health, as co-advisors of the Main Committee for Cleanliness Issues. With the theme 'Brunei Bersih dan Hijau' or Brunei Clean and Green, the campaign aims to raise awareness on the importance of maintaining cleanliness and the beauty of the country's environment in achieving the Wawasan Brunei 2035 towards having a high life quality among the citizens.
At the launching ceremony, the committee's co-advisors received rubbish bins from private companies and non-government organisations. Through such a campaign, members of the public are also advised to take care of the provided facilities and avoid vandalism. The campaign is also one of the activities to support the government's efforts for the Bandarku Ceria Programme.
