The aspect of blessed nationhood in line with the Zikir Nation concept, providing the country with peace, well-being, security and prosperity and clarifying the responsibility of a monarch to his subjects and vice versa, are among the matters discussed during the Special Forum on Malay Islamic Monarchy, MIB this morning for the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Accession to the Throne. In sharing the efforts of the government in providing general and religious education at an international level and with MIB characteristics as well as continuous monitoring towards the people's well-being, the Deputy Minister of Education stressed the aim of the implementation of the Education System for the 21st Century of SPN21, as a platform for achieving Wawasan Negara or National Vision underscoring that by 2035 the country will have citizens who are knowledgeable, highly skilled and successful, possessing a high quality of life with a dynamic and sustainable economy.
Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar explained that three changes have been made in SPN21 namely, an education system that provides students with various paths according to capability, the degree of interest and also the self-development of the student, a curriculum that allows students to adapt lifelong learning to build up self-confidence, far sightedness and active attitude as well as technical education and vocational training. Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom said that assimilation of the MIB concept is also stressed upon in SPN21. Its aim is to instill patriotism and also citizenship for the students. As the religious subjects are to help students learn the basics of Islam and develop their spirituality, the MIB concept is instilled from the early school years, whereby the students are provided with behaviour education on noble values to mould them into the Bruneian mould. MIB is taught as a core subject at primary and secondary schools, from Years 1 to 11 as well as higher education institutions and vocational schools.
Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Doktor Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman touched on the history of MIB since His Majesty's reign and the practise of making doa as well as its effects on the harmony of religion, society and nation. MIB has long been a way of life in Brunei Darussalam and the concept of MIB has never been questioned. This is because it has long been assimilated by the Bruneians but only when it was stated by the monarch himself during the declaration of Independence was the phrase Malay Islamic Monarchy was used.
Meanwhile, Yang Berhormat Awang Iswandy bin Ahmad, member of the Legislative Council touched on the opportunities provided and prosperity enjoyed by His Majesty's citizens in particular youths. Yang Berhormat said youths play a vital role in developing the country towards achieving Wawasan 2035.
Among those at the forum was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of education as the Co-Chairman of the Sectoral Committee for the Procession of His Majesty's Accession to Throne's Golden Jubilee Celebration. The forum was aimed at becoming a platform to strengthen loyalty to the monarchical leadership and determination to maintain peace, prosperity and happiness in the country.
