The Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) has presented its findings on Bank Negara Malaysia’s forex trading losses in the early 1990s to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V.

Speaking to the media after the one-hour meeting with the King, the commission’s chairman Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan said he explained the findings of the committee and its recommendations to the King.

Mohd Sidek added that it was up to the King to deliberate on the matter now.

However, he declined to reveal the findings or the recommendations from the RCI.

The RCI convened from Aug 8 until Sept 19, going through a total of 42 documents and testimonies from 25 witnesses, including former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who was finance minister during the period.

It is understood that it will be up to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to decide when the findings will be made public.

“After that, the Prime Minister will discuss the findings in the Cabinet,” said a source.
