Polo Tournament Prizes Presentation Ceremony

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam last night attended the prizes presentation ceremony for the Polo Tournament in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Accession to the Throne, and the Polo Tournament in conjunction with the 40th Anniversary of the Royal Brunei Polo Association, RBPA. The function was held at the Royal Brunei Polo Club in Jerudong.
Upon arrival, Their Majesties were greeted by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Sanggamara Diraja Retired Major General Pengiran Haji Ibnu Basit bin Pengiran Datu Penghulu Pengiran Haji Apong.
Also in attendance were:
- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah;
- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Raabi'atul 'Adawiyyah;
- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen;
- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel;
- His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah;
- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah;
- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah;
- Her Royal Highness Princess Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah;
- Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah;
- Her Royal Highness Princess 'Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah;
- Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna; and
- Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam.
Also present was Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.
At the function, His Majesty presented prizes to winners of the Polo Tournament in conjunction with the 40th Anniversary of the Royal Brunei Polo Association, RBPA. The champions went to the Royal Selangor Polo Team, while the first runner-up was the Philippines Polo Team.
Meanwhile, the Brunei Darussalam TWO team came in second place in the Polo Tournament in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee celebration of His Majesty's Accession to The Throne. The Brunei Darussalam One team which was participated by His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen and Her Royal Highness Princess 'Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah was crowned as the champion.
His Majesty also presented souvenirs to the umpires. His Majesty, who led the Black Team in the Polo Tournament Exhibition Match, received a souvenir from Her Royal Highness Princess 'Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah as the President of the Royal Brunei Polo Association. In the match, the Black team defeated the Yellow team.
His Majesty also presented souvenirs to recipients who took part in the Golden Jubilee Friendly Polo match.
His Majesty later presented souvenirs to umpires of the Golden Jubilee Friendly Polo Tournament. The umpires were His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah. His Majesty later received a pasambah from Her Royal Highness Princess 'Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah.
Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, as the personal representative of His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Al-Haj, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negeri Selangor Darul Ehsan presented a souvenir to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam as a symbol of Honorary membership in the Royal Selangor Polo Club.
Also receiving similar membership were His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess 'Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah; Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Qawi and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Bahar.
At the function, Her Royal Highness Princess 'Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah, in a sabda said that the event could not have been possible without His Majesty's passion for the game and unwavering support over the past 40 years.
The Polo Tournament was participated by teams from Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand. It among others aimed to develop the interest of the public towards Polo, especially after Brunei Darussalam clinched the silver medal at the recent SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur.
His Majesty and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri later proceeded to view an exhibition showcasing the history of the royal family's participations in Polo Sports events, locally and abroad. Polo in Brunei Darussalam began in the 70's and since then has become a platform to strengthen relations with its neighbouring countries.
