Brunei Darussalam marks another historic achievement when the Sungai Kebun Link Bridge was officially named as the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Bridge. Its official opening marks another latest national landmark in the development of infrastructure, especially in the field of communications. The official opening was held last night in a glorious and colourful atmosphere. His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam attended the Official Opening of the Bridge and watched the Decorated Floats and Boats Procession and Fireworks Display in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Accession to The Throne.

Upon arrival, His Majesty and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri were greeted by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, the Yang Di-Pertua of Adat Istiadat Negara. Also greeting Their Majesties were the Co-Chairpersons of the Celebration and District/Mukim Events Sectoral Committee and the Inauguration and Commemorative Sectoral Committee, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, the Minister of Home Affairs and Datin; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah, the Minister of Development and Datin; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism and Datin; Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohamad Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports and Datin; as well as Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi, the Minister of Health and Datin.

Also present were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Raabi'atul 'Adawiyyah; AND His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel;

His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.

Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Muta-Wakkilah Hayatul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah.

Also in attendance were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam; and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Nasibah as well as other members of the Royal Family.

The Minister of Home Affairs in his welcoming address among other things said the ceremony is a historic occasion and will certainly become an oral tradition for generations to come under His Majesty's reign as well as a landmark of the Monarch's aspiration in efforts to modernise Bandar Seri Begawan in particular.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri were then invited to officiate the opening of the Sungai Kebun Bridge. Their Majesties consented to receive a pasambah from the Minister of Home Affairs and Datin. Subsequently, His Majesty signed a Plaque.

The ceremony was enlivened with the laser light show. The Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Bridge is a project under the 10th National Development Plan. Its construction began in June 2013 and was fully completed this month. The construction of the new bridge draws on the country's important history in line with His Majesty's hope in becoming the celebration as a sign for history. The glorious night was further enlivened with a fireworks display presented by the Brunei Darussalam Tiong Hwa Community Association.

The ceremony was followed by the procession of 38 decorated floats and boats representing Ministries and private companies which were made especially for the Golden Jubilee of His Majesty's Accession to the Throne. The colourful floats displayed attractive themes depicting the achievements, and rapid development and progress in various fields under five decades of His Majesty's reign. With the blessed leadership of His Majesty, the modernization of the country is achieved in line with the aspiration of Wawasan Brunei 2035. Among those who participated in the procession of decorated boats were the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism; the Ministry of Communications; the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports as well as Non-Government Organizations and the Tiong Hwa Community.

The procession brought back the nostalgic memories of celebrations and glory seen on the Brunei River in the nineteen sixties until the nineteen nineties especially during His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Birthday Celebration.

Meanwhile, the decorated boats category saw the participation of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Development, the Ministry of Health and the combination of the country's Mukim and Village Consultative Councils and private companies. The involvement of government and non-government agencies was an expression of their gratitude to His Majesty as well as togetherness in glorifying the Golden Jubilee celebration.

The decorated floats and boats procession created a significantly lively, interesting atmosphere with a uniqueness that is both glorious and enchanting.   It clearly reflected the spirit of unity, understanding, harmony, consensus, cooperation and support as well as proved the people's strong motivation and undivided loyalty to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The glorious atmosphere was further enlivened with the cultural performances by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. The climax of the enthralling and historic evening was a fireworks display presented by Hengyi Industries Sendirian Berhad and Bank of China, Hong Kong Limited.

The Golden Jubilee celebration of His Majesty's Accession to the throne and other lined up events has became the focus of the citizens and residents in line with His Majesty's titah at the Audience Ceremony in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee of His Majesty's Accession to the throne, that the celebration is a most historic occasion for himself and also for all citizens and residents in the country. As such, it is a sharing history with the people.   In other words, the glorious celebration mutually belongs to His Majesty as the monarch and the people.
