KOTA KINABALU

Another younger brother of a former federal minister is in remand for four days from yesterday for investigation into the alleged embezzlement of funds, involving RM180 million, for rural projects in Sabah.

Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie issued the order against the 57-year-old man, who has a ‘Datuk’ title, following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The man, arrested by MACC when he went to the Sabah MACC office to give his statement on the matter, is among nine people arrested so far in connection with the misappropriation of funds for rural projects amounting to RM180 million, which was part of the RM1.5 billion embezzled from a ministry.

The RM1.5 billion was part of the federal government’s allocations for the ministry totalling RM7.5 billion to implement rural projects in Sabah from 2009 to 2015. — Bernama
