KG MENTIRI, BRUNEI-MUARA

The Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Secondary School (SMPDSM), Mentiri on Monday conducted its first parent-teacher meeting with Year 11 students at the school's multi-purpose hall.

Dayangku Hajah Norhasima binti Pengiran Haji Hassan, the school's Principal, took the opportunity to express her contentment with the presence of the parents and guardians for taking their time to attend the meeting.

She also emphasised that 27.4 per cent of the school's Year 11 students managed to obtain five credits and above in their 'O' Level examination last year which is an increase of 3.78 per cent from 2014 and hoped that the number will increase this year.

"To be successful, students must stay focused, be diligent and committed in their learning. Moreover, moral values should also be instilled within them because it is important that as students, they have the skills to think and be visionaries towards realising the National Vision 2035 and becoming the leaders of tomorrow," she said.

She noted that better cooperation among the parents, teachers, students and the school supported by the school programmes and effective strategies will help increase the number of excellent achievements among the Year 11 students.

The event continued with a briefing on the academic programmes implemented by the school towards enhancing the students' learning conducted by Awang Haji Mohd Asahibol Bahri bin Haji Shahbudin, the school's Deputy Principal.

It then continued with the meeting session between parents and teachers along with the students to ensure that they are more accountable for their work and behaviour in class.

The meeting provided an opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss the students' academic progress, setbacks, strengths, weaknesses, and strategies for parental support at home.
